Gerard Harkin


Gerard brings over twenty years of experience in business innovation gained from consulting and commercial roles.

He is an experienced consultant with expertise in leading strategic innovation initiatives, revenue growth programmes and new proposition projects for leading brands. He has worked across a wide variety of sectors, including, speciality chemicals, technology, FMCG, advanced packaging, business services and telecommunications.

His recent clients include Johnson Matthey, E.ON and O2 Ireland. During the past 2 years he assisted Johnson Matthey in the design, build and execution of their strategic innovation programme.

Prior to joining Edengene, Gerard worked as an Ideation expert for Synectics, where his clients included multi-national corporations such as Kraft and Philip Morris. 

He also has fourteen years of experience in innovation and R&D with Philips Lighting and Philips Research, including a 6-year assignment in the Netherlands.

He is the co-inventor of fourteen granted USA patents and the author of many research and innovation publications, blogs and articles. In addition, he is a Visiting Lecturer on Innovation Management at the University of Brighton’s MBA programme.

Gerard holds an MBA with distinction from the University of Brighton and a BSc Electronic Engineering from Trinity College Dublin.

He lives with his wife and son in Brighton. When not at work, he likes to spend time with family and friends, fish with his brothers in the Dingle Peninsula and make bread the old fashioned way!
